Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom:
Trump’s HHS Secretary Tom Price Will Restore Health Freedom

ST. PAUL, Minn.—President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he has chosen Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the Washington Post, Price has been a longtime opponent of Obamacare, a proponent of overhauling the nation’s entitlement programs and a third-generation doctor who chairs the House Budget Committee. Trump said that Price is “exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible health care to every American.”

Soon after the announcement, Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF, released the following statement.

“As a physician who has thought long and hard about health policy, Congressman Tom Price, M.D., is an excellent choice for Secretary of HHS,” said Twila Brase, president and co-founder of CCHF. “We appreciate his resolve to repeal every word of the Affordable Care Act and restore freedom to American patients and doctors.

“Dr. Price will be empowered to start the repeal of Obamacare at the regulatory level even before a repeal bill makes its way to President Trump,” she continued. “There are tens of thousands of pages of Obamacare regulations that can be rescinded, amended or left unenforced on the way to repeal, and we encourage him to make every effort to begin shutting down Obamacare by shutting down its regulations.

“CCHF will work to bring our ideas for health freedom and free-markets to Dr. Price, the Trump administration and Congress to make sure that dollars and power are shifted back to the states and away from the federal government and third-party payer controls,” Brase concluded. “The only way to restore long-term affordability, simplicity and privacy to patients and doctors is to return to a free-market of interference-free indemnity insurance, direct payments between patients and doctors, and limited third-party involvement.”

Additionally, the Washington Post reported, “Trump also named Seema Verma, a health care consultant who was the architect of Medicaid changes in Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s home state of Indiana, to run a crucial section of HHS: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.”page1image20656  page1image20976
