Read the strange letter from Facebook’s CEO. Addressed to his newborn daughter Max on December 1, it’s chock full of collectivist thoughts written to the world. Peek inside the mind of the man in control of Facebook with the data of 1.55 billion people at his fingertips.

Mark Zuckerberg plans to use $45 billion to “advance human potential.” This is not a donation. He’s establishing a LLC corporation to fund participation “in policy debates” (lobbying?) and investments in profit-making operations and non-profits that “promote equality in health, education, scientific research, and energy.”
He mentions ‘collective’ or ‘collectively’ three times. ‘Equality,’ ‘equal’ and ‘fair’ together get 11 mentions. ‘World’ comes up 20 times, but America not once.
Freedom is missing too. Alex Epstein, writing in Forbes, says freedom is why Zuckerberg prospered and chides Facebook’s billionaire owner for not mentioning any plans to fight for the individual and economic freedom that would accomplish many of Zuckerberg’s goals.
Instead, Zuckerberg makes various claims about what “society” is responsible for, such as, “we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation.” Who is this “we” he claims to speak for?
On health care, he predicts a world free of disease. Then he declares, “Today we spend about 50 times more as a society treating people who are sick than we invest in research so you won't get sick in the first place.”
What kind of research and interventions does he envision to create a disease-free utopian world? Genetic manipulation, procreative restrictions, behavioral modification, penalty and reward systems?
Shockingly, Zuckerberg calls for worldwide equality, saying everyone, regardless of nation, family or circumstances, should have the same opportunities. He calls for “the talents, ideas and contributions of every person in the world” to be “channeled.” For what purpose and by whom? Him?
Zuckerberg cannot see or does not want to acknowledge how freedom can unleash human progress and economic prosperity in a way global collectivism and his $45 billion dollars never can.
Or perhaps, he just wants to be king.
