BRINGCreative Signs that oppose REAL ID (National ID Card)

If passed, SF 3589 will:

• eliminate MN state driver’s licenses,
• create federal driver’s licenses and identification cards issued by MN,
• let the federal government determine “official purposes" and required uses of the driver's licenses and ID cards.

As Senator Limmer said Thursday, REAL ID is a 'National ID card.'

If this bill becomes law, all standard driver’s licenses and IDs in MN will be federal REAL ID licenses or ID cards -- under federal control.

This is an unconstitutional violation of state’s rights and an unconstitutional violation of your 10th Amendment rights forbidding federal encroachment.

The Republican bill will transfer to the federal government control over the documents you need for ID, travel, driving, and access to services.

Proponents say the bill gives you a non-REAL ID option. Not true. These driver's licenses and IDs will be all REAL ID-compliant if the bill becomes law. As author Sen. Scott Dibble (D) said in a Senate committee, both types of licenses and IDs will be under the federal REAL ID law and thus both will be compliant with REAL ID. There's NO "non-compliant" DL/ID if bill passes.

PLEASE COME! (let us know you're coming by replying to this email)

If you can't come, or even if you can, CALL AND EMAIL LEGISLATORS ASAP:

WHEN YOU CONTACT THEM: Please use the Senate bill number (SF 3589), the name of the House author (Rep. Dennis Smith) and the words "VOTE NO ON REAL ID" in your communications. To be clear, Rep. Smith is amending the Senate File with the House language, so the vote will be taken on the Senate File even though it has the House language in it (this is a common practice).

Tell the following legislators to VOTE NO on REAL ID (SF 3589)!

Speaker Kurt Daudt - 651-296-5364; rep.kurt.daudt@house.mn
Majority Leader Joyce Peppin - 651-296-7806; rep.joyce.peppin@house.mn

P.S. YOU CAN STILL FLY: The privacy office of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security says REAL ID is a "voluntary program for the States" and the federal REAL ID Rule says that you can fly without REAL ID:
