Hired to Hoodwink
November 12, 2014

Jonathan Gruber says Americans were purposely deceived. Then this Obamacare architect adds insult to injury. He calls Americans stupid. Now he says the videotaped comment was “off the cuff.” But alas, yet another videotape finds him saying that Americans are “too stupid to understand” the language in Obamacare.
Before I continue, please let me just remind you that your donation of any amount before midnight TOMORROW, Thursday, November 13 will be DOUBLED (up to $12,000) thanks to a generous matching grant we’ve received. You can also SCHEDULE your donation today for delivery tomorrow!
Mr. Gruber, a MIT economics professor, is presumably a smart guy. He served as Obama’s technical consultant for designing Obamacare, and the White House paid him nearly $400,000 for his expertise. His startling admission of deceit on the first videotape also makes it clear just how wrong Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts’ ruling was on the individual mandate. Roberts declared the individual mandate a tax in 2012 and saved Obamacare.
But Mr. Gruber said Obamacare’s drafters wanted to make it crystal clear that the individual mandate was NOT a tax:
“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies.”
Gruber then revealed the deception and called Americans stupid:
“In terms of risk-rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in – you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money – it would not have passed. … Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical to get anything to pass. … Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.”
But Gruber is wrong about Americans. Dead wrong. The facts of the law – including using the Obamacare exchange to redistribute dollars from the healthy to the sick -- were withheld precisely because American voters are smart.
Armed with the truth, voters might have made Obama a one-term president. That was the fear. And on November 4, with more ACA truth filtering out every day, Americans demonstrated their intelligence in spades by voting Democrats out of Senate leadership.
On the day Obamacare is gutted by the Court or repealed by Congress, Mr. Gruber will be forced to acknowledge not only the intelligence of American voters, but also their power.
Please don’t forget: your donation to CCHF today will be used to actively advance health freedom, including submitting an Amicus Brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on the all-important King vs. Burwell Obamacare lawsuit. Please donate $35, $100, $350 $1,000 or more before midnight, Thursday, November 13. Our work depends totally on your support.
Thank you in advance for helping us work to keep America free!
