Everything went smoothly at first. Ilan, the nine-year old son of American physician Benjamin Davies, MD, broke his arm on vacation in Italy. The local hospital x-rayed the arm, reduced the fractures of each bone and applied a cast. But the question of surgery could only be determined by driving to a bigger hospital 1.5 hours away.

ST. PAUL, Minn.—Electronic health records (EHRs) have infringed upon the patient-doctor relationship in innumerable ways, but none more glaring than how EHRs have turned doctors away from patients and into data clerks.
It’s just the tip of the iceberg of how the mandated, government-certified EHR technology has negatively affected doctors and patients.

ST. PAUL, Minn.—Health care has already found its way into the narrative surrounding President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, announced less than 48 hours ago. But regardless of how SCOTUS may impact future health care policy, there are real threats to patientstoday, including third-party controls over care, surveillance, data collection and privacy invasions—much of it through electronic health record (EHR) systems found in a majority of doctor’s offices and hospitals around the country.

CCHF has concerns with the proposed model of Direct Provider Contracting— and its acronym. Many physicians and providers have wisely chosen to move away from insurance contracts. They have also opted out of Medicare/Medicaid to remove federal and other third-party intrusion from their practice. They are third-party- payer free (TPF). The questions and commentary of the RFI propose to intrude into the patient-doctor relationship under the name of “DPC.” The proposal asks “how can a DPC model be designed to attract a wide variety of practices, including small, independent practices, and/or physicians.”

ST. PAUL, Minn.—The implementation of theHealth Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act in 2009 was a blow for health freedom. HITECH, embedded within the Recovery Act, provided at least $27 billion to establish a National Health Information Network for data sharing without patient consent. HITECH requires doctors and hospitals to use government-certified electronic health records (EHRs) or face financial penalties.
Friday, May 5, 2017 was not a good day. Trump signed into law a ‘National Patient ID’ law (2017 Appropriations, H.R. 244, Public Law 115-31) enacted by Congress. Federal funds are now available to develop a “patient-matching strategy”.
