Citizens' Council on Health Care (CCHC) has just confirmed that the new 2004 state Republican platform includes opposition to "best practices" health care legislation - legislation that Minnesota Republicans sponsored and made law in May 2004.

The incident began when a member of the public asked the group of six Cabinet members about the "best practices" health care initiative they had spent the better part of an hour touting. The woman asked: "Do I have a right to keep my data out of state government?"

On Friday, May 28, approximately 45 minutes after the Citizens' Council on Health Care (CCHC) placed online a photo of the May 13 delivery of citizen petitions to the Governor's office -- and notified the Office of the Governor about the photo -- a representative of the Governor's office called CCHC's president, Twila Brase.

"Just to verify, I asked Heidi if the Governor had seen the stack of citizen petitions we brought in 2 weeks ago. With a look of uncertainty, she said she didn't know. So I asked her, 'Where are the petitions?' Amazingly, she didn't know that either. But she said they didn't come to her and suggested they may have been sent to Constituent Services," said Twila Brase, president of CCHC.

"We are pleased to say that over 100 physicians have already stepped forward to say that this is wrong. It's wrong for the State to get into the practice of medicine. It's wrong for government to interfere with the patient-doctor relationship. And it's wrong to violate the confidentiality of patient medical records," said Twila Brase, president of CCHC.
