Dissension in The Swamp

Dissension in The Swamp

President Trump promised to drain the swamp. But finding the plug in the boggy mire and pulling it out has proved difficult. That said, the swamp is no longer functioning with its usual efficiency. Congress is having more difficulty getting bills passed. There’s dissension in the ranks and impasse is common. That’s mostly a good thing.

Much Afoot in Healthcare Land

The fight over Obamacare is not over. That said, the failed or stalled GOP proposals would have continued massive redistribution of worker’s wages to health plans—corporate socialized medicine—and not repealed the ACA.

Republicans Should Tell the Truth

Republicans Should Tell the Truth

It’s not true. All claims about “repealing” the Affordable Care Act play loosey-goosey with the term “repeal” and they know it. None of the votes so far have been on a real repeal bill. This week, Senate Republicans wanted a political win, but they were not planning to repeal the ACA.

Republicans want to “stabilize” the Affordable Care Act. That means they want to save it. The entire trajectory is away from repeal and toward a “fix.”

Will President Trump Rob Peter?

Health plans are fear-mongering. They’re threatening to hike insurance premiums unless President Trump pays subsidies that even the Democrats refused to fund. Now the Congressional Budget Office piles on, agreeing that premiums will increase if Trump refuses to pay the ACA cost-sharing reduction (CSR) subsidies to health plans.

The “Skinny Appeasement” Bill

The “Skinny Appeasement” Bill

Last week, the Republicans failed to pass the “skinny repeal” bill. Was that bad or was that good? And what now? See the end of this message for a time-sensitive ACTION ITEM

Real Repeal or #FakeRepeal?

Real Repeal or #FakeRepeal?

Thankfully, the GOP Senate “Better Care Reconciliation Act” (BCRA, “bic-rah”) vote is delayed. Last week, we were in Washington, D.C. asking members and staffers in 20 offices, including the offices of Speaker Paul Ryan and Iowa Rep. Steve King (see photo), to do a REAL REPEAL

Will Senate Bill be a Win or a Loss?

Will Senate Bill be a Win or a Loss?

“We aren’t stupid” two Senate aides told Axios. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is not even letting other senators see the GOP Senate’s “repeal and replace” Obamacare bill. They plan to submit it to the Congressional Budget Office before making it public.. The vote may happen before or just after the July 4 recess. Despite the bill being a secret, one reporter claims moderates are winning and conservatives are losing.
