For Immediate Release: Biden Administration’s Payment Cut Reveals Medicare Advantage as a “Bait and Switch” Trap for Americans

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) stands firm in its commitment to advocating for health care choice as recent developments threaten the well-being of America’s seniors. In light of the Biden Administration’s decision to reduce payments to Medicare Advantage plans, CCHF urges seniors to reevaluate their health care options for the sake of their financial and medical security.

With Medicare insolvency looming in 2031, the recent announcement of payment cuts to Medicare Advantage plans serves as a warning for likely future cuts to the program that millions of seniors depend on for coverage. Given the high possibility of rising patient costs and reduced benefits, CCHF advises seniors to make informed decisions regarding their Medicare coverage.

“Medicare Advantage is a bait and switch trap,” says Twila Brase, RN, PHN, Co-founder and President of CCHF. “Americans are lured in by the promise of low premiums, only to find themselves trapped in a system where these plans are allowed by government to dictate terms and raise costs at will. Although Medicare Advantage plans typically receive more federal dollars per enrollee than are provided in care to enrollees in Original Medicare, we expect health plans to respond to the federal cuts by reducing care and cutting benefits rather than cutting their profit margins.”

With more than 50% of seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, CCHF asks Americans to consider two important questions:

  • Under Medicare’s enrollment restrictions, will senior citizens be able to easily leave Medicare Advantage when they find benefits reduced and treatments more strictly rationed?
  • Or will seniors be left vulnerable to rising Medicare Advantage deductibles, premiums, co-pays, and out-of-pocket maximums with nowhere to go?

“These cuts are a clear indication of a failing system,” adds Brase. “Without a viable escape hatch from Medicare, seniors will continue to bear the brunt of this nearly 60-year-old Ponzi scheme.”

CCHF aims to ensure that every American has the information and the freedom to choose the health care options that best suit their needs—including the right to opt out of Medicare and choose real and affordable medical indemnity insurance for a lifetime.
