Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom Voice Strong Opposition to H.R. 3467
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) is warning senior citizens and lawmakers about a new Medicare bill that would automatically enroll all new Medicare recipients into a Medicare Advantage health plan starting January 2028—and lock them in for three years.
“This bill is a violation of individual rights,” said Twila Brase, RN, PHN, CCHF Co-Founder and President. “It forces America’s seniors into a plan they did not choose—plans that often come with limited networks, longer wait times, denied care, and higher costs if they get sick.
H.R. 3467, introduced by Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ), would require automatic enrollment into the lowest-cost Medicare Advantage plan for all new Medicare beneficiaries starting in 2028. If more than one lowest-premium plan exists, the Secretary of Health and Human Services would decide which one is assigned to the enrollee. The bill includes an unspecified opt-out period, but provides no details about how long it lasts or how beneficiaries will be informed. During those three years, the bill says enrollees may only switch plans or return to Original Medicare if they qualify for a “hardship,” as determined by the federal government.
“The power to opt-out is no power at all. It places a burden on seniors that is expected to keep most of them in a plan they didn’t choose.” Brase said. “Schweikert’s bill eliminates real choice and turns seniors into captives of the health insurance industry.”
CCHF strongly opposes H.R. 3467 and urges Congressman Schweikert to withdraw the bill.
To help seniors avoid traps like this, CCHF has released the Medicare How-To Guide, a resource that explains Medicare options in plain language. The guide is available to download for free.
