ST. PAUL, Minn. — As Americans grapple with economic uncertainty, the importance of sound health care policies has never been greater. On Monday, September 9th, the Harris-Walz campaign posted health care policy positions on its website, kamalaharris.com, but the content raises more questions than it answers.
Vice President Kamala Harris has been criticized for shifting stances on critical health care issues. Since Harris first ran for President in 2019, she has repeatedly adjusted her policies, seemingly in response to political pressure. The Harris-Walz campaign’s current slate of health care policies, which do not recant previous controversial positions held by Harris, lack the details voters need to make informed decisions.
“The lack of specificity in the stated health care policies is notable,” says Twila Brase, RN, PHN, Co-founder and President of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF). “Vice President Kamala Harris has previously advocated for banning private health insurance and promoting Medicare for All. However, the current campaign’s policies remain unclear on whether she fully supports or distances herself from these earlier positions, leaving Americans uncertain about her true stance on government-run health care.”
“Although the details remain unclear, it seems the Harris-Walz campaign plans to fund their broad health care promises by increasing costs to taxpayers,” adds Brase. “This will not, as the campaign claims, bring down the cost of health care services or coverage. It simply forces working taxpayers to bear the costs of others through taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidies and cancelled medical debt – while having to pay their own medical bills.”
To help voters get a better sense of the health care debate in this crucial election, Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) created “Top 10 Health Care Policy Facts You Need to Know.” This document provides a side-by-side comparison of key publicly available Harris-Walz and Trump-Vance health care policy positions.
