CCHC Opposes Obamacare in Budget Bill Passed by MN Legislature

(St. Paul/Minneapolis) - In response to the Minnesota legislature's passage of the controversial budget bill, special session HF 1, just moments ago, Twila Brase, RN, PHN, president of Citizens' Council on Health Care, provides the following statement:

  • "Despite public opposition and constitutional violations, the Minnesota legislature has passed a bill filled with the implementation of ObamaCare."

  • "The bill includes placement of ObamaCare-enabled early expansion of Medicaid into Minnesota law, establishment of government as the primary seller of health insurance through a state health insurance exchange, implementation of a federal high-risk insurance pool, establishment of a health care reform task force to coordinate state and federal efforts, and authority to secure federal ObamaCare dollars to implement government control over medical decisions.

  • "The bill also establishes a State government database of every person with a traumatic injury, and authorizes the Minnesota Department of Health to conduct surveillance in birth centers without the knowledge or consent of mothers delivering babies."

  • "Governor Pawlenty should veto this bill to protect the residents of Minnesota from the overreach of government, and the unconstitional imposition of ObamaCare."

The federal health care reform sections of HF1 begin in section 22 on page 174. Trauma Registry is on 156. The birth center surveillance provisions are on page 164.
