Corrupt IRS to Enforce Obamacare
Twila Brase of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom Says Americans Shouldn’t Trust IRS with Private Health Information
ST.PAUL, Minn.— Guess which government agency will enforce Obamacare? One with a stellar record for privacy and fairness?
No. It’s the Internal Revenue Service, currently under investigation for unfairly targeting conservative groups in America with audits, harassment and delays. Once Obamacare kicks in fully, the IRS will not only oversee your tax returns but your health insurance status too. In fact, Sarah Hall Ingram, The Internal Revenue Service official in charge of the tax-exempt organizations at the time when the unit targeted tea party groups now runs the IRS office responsible for enforcement of the health reform law.
Patient advocate and public health nurse, Twila Brase, president and co-founder of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom, is asking Americans—Do we really want to give a historically corrupt government agency access to even more of our private information?
Brase notes that the IRS and Health and Human Services (HHS) are currently building the largest personal information database in government history. The “Health Insurance Exchange Program" – a new federal System of Records will use the “Federal Data Services Hub” (image below) to gather information on individuals from the IRS (income and employment), Social Security Administration (identity), Homeland Security (citizenship), Justice (criminal history), HHS (enrollment in entitlement programs and certain medical claims data) and state government data systems (residency).
“The IRS has demonstrated a blatant propensity to abuse the power and knowledge they accumulate to illegally investigate their enemies,” says Brase, president of CCHF, a patient-centered national health policy organization in St. Paul, Minn. “Worse yet, Obamacare will be enforced by the IRS, and they will now have access to a frightening amount of information on every American. What can we expect from them when they have access to all sorts of private data they can use to penalize us for failure to buy insurance?”
The centralized federal database, the Health Insurance Exchange Program system of records, Brase adds, is truly a dangerous data center that all the wrong individuals and agencies will be privy to. Access to such comprehensive data on individuals will always lead to corruption and revenge, as the IRS has already exhibited.
Brase has written a list of the “Top Ten Terribles of Health Insurance Exchanges,” which include higher costs, privacy intrusions, more red tape, and poor care and coverage. The full list is available on the CCHF web site at /.
