Thursday is the day Congress set apart to give thanks to God, including thanks for the freedom that Americans have been given, as well as the freedom to fight to keep tyrants from taking it away.

In honor of Thanksgiving, and before I list 10 reasons to give thanks regarding Obamacare, I’d like to share the amazing story of Dimitri, a man who dared to give thanks in very difficult times.

After the USSR government destroyed all the churches in his area – and the nearest church was a 3-day walk away -- a Russian named Dimitri began to tell Bible stories and sing songs with his wife and children. A few of his neighbors, who heard the singing through the windows, asked to join. Eventually more than 150 people pressed in every week to participate. When Dimitri refused to stop even after they fired him and his wife from their jobs, Russian authorities threw him in prison.

But every morning, for 17 years, Dimitri gave thanks in his tiny cell. He rose at daybreak and stood at attention by his bed. “As was his custom, he would face the east, raise his arms in praise to God and then he would sing a heart song to Jesus.” He had learned this daily routine from his father. This made the 1,500 hardened criminals surrounding him quite unhappy. As he sang, they jeered, cursed, threw food and human waste, and clanged their cups against the prison bars.

Following his father’s example of committing scripture to memory, Demitri used bits of charcoal to write memorized Bible verses on scraps of paper he found around the prison. He stuck them on the wet concrete pillar in his cell as an offering to God, but the prison guards always ripped them down and beat him.

One day he found a whole sheet of paper – and amazingly, a pencil. When Russian authorities found the paper filled with verses front and back and stuck to the damp pillar, they decided to have Dimitri executed.

“Dimitri was dragged from his cell. As he was dragged down the corridor in the center of the prison, the strangest thing happened. Before they reach the door leading to the courtyard—before stepping out into the place of execution—fifteen hundred hardened criminals stood at attention by their beds. They faced the east, and in what Dmitri told me sounded to him like the greatest choir in all of human history, those men raised their arms and began to sing the heart song that they had heard Dmitri sing to Jesus every morning for all of those years.

“Dmitri’s jailers instantly released their hold on his arms and stepped away from him in terror. One of them demanded to know, “Who are you?” Dmitri straightened his back and stood as tall and as proud as he could. He responded: “I am a son of the Living God, and Jesus is His Name.” The guards returned him to his cell. Sometime later, Dmitri was released and he returned to his family.” (Source: The Insanity of Obedience, [BETH – pull the comma into the word] interview of Dimitri by author Nik Ripken)

No matter how strong the opposition, there are always reasons to give thanks. Here are at least 10 reasons to be thankful for what is happening with Obamacare:

  1. As people “find out what’s in it,” the ugly truth about Obamacare is emerging.
  2. Nearly 5 years after the law was enacted, Obamacare is still not ‘settled law.’
  3. 29 Senators who voted for Obamacare are not part of the new U.S. Senate.
  4. A record high 56% of the American people now oppose Obamacare.
  5. House and Senate GOP leadership say they’ll vote to repeal the law.
  6. Democrats, worried about 2016 elections could override Obama’s veto.
  7. The strong enrollment needed to keep Obamacare solvent is not happening.
  8. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the ACA subsidies lawsuit, King v. Burwell.
  9. ACA architect Jonathan Gruber has revealed the lies used to enact the ACA.
  10. Even some Democrats see Obamacare as a failure (WSJ, Burke Beu, 11/7/14)

I wish you a happy Thanksgiving! Let us all be thankful for the freedom to fight for freedom, and let us pray that Obamacare is repealed soon…and very soon.
